Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is one of the topics that are highly under reported in the MENA region. Despite its importance, media outlets in many countries in the region do not find it attractive when it is not directly linked to a scandal or a misconception. With approximately 220,000 persons living with HIV in the MENA as of 2018 according to the United Nations Program on AIDS, the media industry in the region still doesn’t consider it as a subject of high importance.

 

This report monitors how the media covered HIV in 5 countries in the MENA: Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia.

يُعتبر فيروس نقص المناعة البشري من أهم المواضيع التي لا يتمّ التطرّق لها بشكلٍ كافٍ فــي الإعــام في منطقــة الشــرق الأوســط وشــمال إفريقيــا. علــى الرغــم مــن أهميتــه، لا تجــده الكثيــر مــن وســائل الإعــام فــي العديــد من دول المنطقة موضوعاً جذاباً، خاصة إن لم يرتبط مباشرةً بفضيحة أو اعتقادٍ خاطئ.

يرصد هذا التقرير تغطية الإعلام لموضوع فيروس نقص المناعة البشري في 5 بلدان: مصر والأردن ولبنان والمغرب وتونس.

Le Virus de l’Immunodéficience Humaine (VIH) est l’un des sujets très peu rapportés dans la région MENA. Malgré son importance, les médias dans de nombreux pays régionaux ne le considèrent pas attrayant que lorsqu’il est directement lié à un scandale ou à de fausses informations. En dépit des 220 000 personnes actuellement atteintes du VIH dans la région MENA en 2018 selon le Programme des Nations Unies sur le SIDA, l’industrie des médias de la région n’accordent toujours pas une grande importance à ce sujet.

Ce rapport met en exergue la couverture médiatique du VIH dans 5 pays de la région: Egypte, Jordanie, Liban, Maroc et Tunisie.
