In the MENA region, homophobia is highly prevalent, and many studies have been carried out globally to understand the economic implication of this phobia. However, none of these studies shed light on the proper context in Morocco. For instance, the world bank conducted some studies on the economic cost of homophobia in other regions of the world, such as India (The World Bank, 2014), but the scope of these studies were large and not enough data was available on Morocco specifically.
